• Thumbs up to my brother Gary, sister Michelle, and OVN’s own Tori for their good work with Dan P. Parks’ “A Heavenly 95th!”
• Thumbs up to the gentleman with the small black dog who returned my wallet, thank you! He exemplifies the type of community members we have in Ojai! Please return for finder’s fee.

Don’t fall for lies
Of all the lies being told by the No on A&B crowd, aka Big Oil, the most absurd (and funniest) one is the one that seems to imply that by requiring Big Oil to update its antiquated drilling permits the world oil supply will be impacted!

• Thumbs up to Jim & Rob’s Fresh Grill Ojai. The Ojai Valley Woman’s Club had them cater our installation dinner. They are so good to our local nonprofits.
• Thumbs up to Ojai Councilmember Ryan Blatz for calling out the contrived alliance to stop a 100-year-old hotel as a cheap political trick.

Yes on Measures A and B to protect our environment
Re: your May 6 article, “Public input sought on future of Rincon Island by May 16”:
Last Friday’s paper was a perfect example of the greed of the oil industry.
They claim bankruptcy and can't clean up Rincon Island? We, as taxpayers, paid $46 million to do it?! Please VOTE YES on Measures A and B on the June 7 ballot. All they do is make existing permits, issued before 1971, some going back to the 1800s, meet current standards.

Ojai Unified School District Board of Education Public Comments submitted for
Board Meeting on Wednesday, May 11, 2022
Public Comments
05/11/2022 - Linda Harmon (11.2): “ I was happy to see option two listed. Option two would fulfill a need for affordable housing which would in turn benefit the school system, providing future income and potential students. I’ve lived in Ojai for over 30 years and raised three children here who all attended public schools. Another suggestion, make the housing available to teaching staff as part of their employment package."

Ojai to honor veterans on Memorial Day May 30
“When we’re watching somebody being attacked, somebody has to stand up and defend them.”
— Jericho Magallon, veteran and Nordhoff High School graduate, leaving Ojai to join in the defense of the Ukraine,
as quoted in the March 11 Ojai Valley News
Spoken like a true veteran and a reminder that Memorial Day is approaching — May 30. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Ojai Post is holding a beautiful, free program at Libbey Bowl at noon that day. It will feature patriotic music, speakers and some of the most beautiful and talented singers in the Ojai Valley, including the Children’s Choir from Monica Ros school.

• Thumbs up to the Ojai Ranger District for its support for the 755-acre Reyes Fuels Management project. With the current fires in New Mexico, it is an important reminder why these projects are necessary! Let the U.S. Forest Service manage the forest!

• Thumbs down to the unimaginative person who chooses urban blight over our town's 102-year-old historic hotel and our local economy, when she filed an appeal to the Ojai City Planning Commission’s decision to go forward with the El Roblar Hotel. It's sad when those who cannot create themselves seek to destroy.
• Thumbs down to Meiners Oaks Water District board members for harassing a customer with an expensive, avoidable lawsuit, then voting themselves raises and trying to raise customers’ water rates because “costs” have gone up. It stinks.

Yes climate change; no climate crisis
Re: Alasdair Coyne’s April 15 Op-Ed, “Climate crisis on the line”:
Coyne needs to take a deep dive into the studies underlying the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s sixth Assessment Report. He might find they do not support his or the alarmist contentions; their data have been cherry-picked and their statistics misapplied.

Put expanded library on OUSD property
I have lived in the Ojai Valley since 1973, when I was a child. I am grateful beyond words for having grown up in this very special part of the world.
I am writing to share a suggestion for use of the property on which the Ojai Unified School District is located.
